WA wine pioneer Dr Bill Pannell foresaw great things for Pemberton as a wine region. He was right, Bellarmine is making quality, international style wines in our backyard and highlighting the potential of this region.
The earth here is deep, well-drained gravelly loam originally home to the marri tree. It is no secret that this soil type is a major contributing factor to the production of great Margaret River wine.
Wines are released under two labels – ‘Higher Plane’ wines are from the property and are the very best that can be produced. Wines in the ‘South by Southwest’ range come from estate fruit and fruit from other carefully selected vineyards in the area. The emphasis is on varietal and regional character.
Kalgan River Wines has been in the area for more than 10 years. It was originally established by the Ciprian family and recently purchased by the Fowler family.This range of wines is all single-vineyard grown and unirrigated with emphasis on minimal intervention in both vineyard and winery.
