Prof Con Michael has ceased clinical practice to work full time as Group Director of Medical Services for St John of God Health Care, with responsibilities in 11 hospitals in WA and Victoria. He continues as Chairman of the Medical Board and Reproductive Technology Council.

Dr Michael Lekias AM was awarded as a Member of the Order of Australia in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours for his service to the Greek community through a range of business, cultural, sporting, and welfare organizations; to local government; and to medicine.

Dr Vince Caruso has stepped down as Director of Pathology of Western Diagnostic Pathology to focus on clinical work. Dr Miles Beaman replaces him.

Mr Seamus McGeever has left Johnson & Johnson to become State Manager GP Sales for Eli Lilly in WA.

Mr Richard Walker has resigned as non-executive chairman for Biometrics Ltd.

Mr Patrick O'Connor has resigned as non-executive chairman of Perth healthcare company Acuron Ltd. Mr Andrew Gay has taken up the role of acting chairman.

Mandurah-based Imaging the South has been the first WA medical imaging practice to be accredited with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard by RANZCR.

Ms Theresa Dash has been appointed business development manager for Inamed Health in WA, replacing Ms Liz Evans.

Ms Fiona Kalaf has been appointed to a newly-created role in product packaging and promotion as part of the leadership team at HBF. She joins the health insurer after four years with Asgard Wealth Solutions.

The Edward Gawthorn Prize, awarded to the WA candidate with the highest overall score in the RACGP examination, has been awarded to Dr Christine Reid.

Mr Peter Woods has resigned as non-executive chairman of Advance Healthcare group, while Mr Christopher Rowe has been appointed as a director and chairman.

Cottman SBA, part of Advance Healthcare group, has undergone a major shakeup in the last few months. Departures have been Jean Newby Butt (National Sales manager), Jeff Lewis (WA Manager), Catherine Wallwork (PA WA office), and Lynn Bradshaw (heading Medical Products Group). New appointments are Peter Roberts as Operations Manager and Nicolette Mullan as Sales Manager. Ms Jean Newby-Butt has taken on the role of National Sales Manager for PharmAust Ltd.

HBF managing director Mr Mike Gurry has announced his intention to retire from the company within the next twelve months.

Prof Michael Moodie has taken indefinite personal leave from his position as executive director of the WA Health Department's Information and Medical Technology division.

Perth health care equipment company Medec Ltd has acquired the Inspired Life Health Club in Bentley.

Geriatrician Assoc/Prof David Bruce has been promoted to Professor within the School of Medicine and Pharmacology. 

Amongst NHMRC grants, the Western Australian DNA Bank has been given $1.37m for 2006-10. The program is run by a conglomeration of high profile research groups in WA.
