Dr Geoffrey Riley of Albany was made a Member of the Order of Australia for service to medical education, particularly in rural and clinical practice as an academic and administrator, and to professional organisations.

Prof Stephan Schug, Director of Pain Medicine at Royal Perth Hospital, was awarded with a $3,000 travel grant from the Perth Convention Bureau for coming up with the winning lead to help bring medical and health conferences to WA.

Dr Neale Fong has been appointed as the Director of Curtin University’s multi-million dollar Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute (CHIRI) responsible for driving forward translational research in the essential areas of ageing, chronic disease, population health, indigenous, and mental health.

Prof Teik Oh, Director of Medical Services at Mercy Hospital Mt Lawley, was made a Member (AM) in the General Divison of the Queen’s Birthday Honour List for his work in protocol development for anesthesia and intensive care. Recent accomplishments include an adjunct professorship at Notre Dame University, the Inaugural Medal of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) of Australia & NZ, and Inaugural Orator Congregation of the CICM of Australia & NZ.

Prof Claire Jackson has been appointed President-elect of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. A GP and GP Supervisor in Brisbane and a Professor in General Practice and Primary Health Care and Head of Discipline at the University of Queensland, Claire has been involved in health reform in many areas.

Dr William Diamond has been appointed Assessment Panel Chair of the RACGP WA Faculty. Dr Diamond has replaced Dr Timothy Koh who resigned after serving in the position since 2005.

Dr Ian Wood has been appointed as RACGP WA Faculty Education Committee Chair.

Dr Helen Wilcox was recently ratified by the RACGP council as WA State Censor.

Mr Graeme Lake, previously with Servier Laboratories, has been appointed State Manager for GSK.

Dr Rachel Hammond of Kalgoorlie was one of three rural doctors to receive the 2009 Rural Australia Medical Undergraduate Scholarship (RAMUS) Scheme Mentor Award, given annually to mentors who provide outstanding and inspirational support to RAMUS scholars.
