C-Tec CEO David Edwards has joined the WA committee of the Australia-Indonesia Business Council (AIBC).

Paul Hopper has been appointed executive chairman of Bone Medical replacing chief executive officer Michael Redman.

Dr Vicky Westoby has won the Graduate Diploma Rural Registrar of the Year award. She has shown significant commitment to rural general practice since undertaking her basic term in the GP training program at Narrogin. She achieved the Diploma of RANZCOG in 2002 and FRACGP and Graduate Diploma of Rural General practice in 2004.

Dr Duncan Steed was awarded the John Aloizos Medal for outstanding individual contribution to Divisions of General Practice Network at the recent ADGP awards in Perth. Other winners included the Greater Bunbury Division of General Practice for promoting prevention and early intervention.

PharmAust Limited recently appointed Paul D'Sylva as managing director.

Peter Copson has been appointed new General Manager of SJOG Pathology for WA. He comes from pathology services in Queensland. Not-for-profit SJOG Pathology now has 39 collecting centres, including those at their satellite labs in SJOG Geraldton, Mercy Hospital, Hollywood Private Hospital, SJOG Murdoch and Subiaco, Midland, and SJOG Bunbury. The lab is sending volunteer staff and resources to establish pathology services in East Timor.

After three years in the job, Assoc Prof Richard Riley has handed the reigns of the Centre for Anaesthesia Skills and Medical Simulation (CASMS) to Charlies and Hollywood Hospital intensivist Dr Mary Pinder. CASMS is a UWA initiative housed in CTEC, to train anaesthetists and others to deal with simulated clinical or operative scenarios.

Professor Val Alder has been appointed Chair of the Lions Ear and Hearing Institute Board. Former deputy dean of Medicine and Dentistry at UWA, Professor Alder will drive the Institute's research programs and venture capital funding.

RACGP (WA) is looking for a new public relations person following the resignation of Mrs Annie Payne for personal reasons.

Penny Johnson has left MDA National as National Risk Manager after fours years in the post. Penny has been a regular contributor of short case scenarios to Medical Forum depicting medicolegal issues relevant to readers.

Mr Bruce Jenkins continues in commonwealth employ with Broadband for Health, moving from WACRRM to the new GP divisions body in WA.

The new 2005/06 RACGP Board is Prof Max Kamien (Provost), Dr Vasantha Preetham (Chair), Dr Peter Maguire (Dep Chair), Dr Sam Bada (Hon Treasurer), Dr Frank Jones (Hon Secretary), Dr Darian Sharp (Censor), Prof Jon Emery, Dr Tom Brett, Dr Richard Choong, Dr Bennie Ng, Dr Anna Parker, Dr Shiong Tan, and Dr Peter Wallace. Retiring members are Dr Steven Kan and Dr Crystal Cree.

WAIMR research assistant Danielle Dye took out the UWA Award at the Australian Society for Medical Research gala dinner in recognition for her research on the melanoma cell adhesion molecule (MSAM) which assists the spread of melanoma throughout the body.
