Dr Elizabeth (Liz) Marles is the new President-elect of the RACGP. A practising GP in Hornsby, NSW, Liz will take the reins from Prof Claire Jackson.

Dr Anita Bourke was thrown a party by her SCGH colleagues to celebrate her 30th anniversary at the hospital. Over the years she’s worked with her husband, her sister, her brother and brother-in-law and now her son, who is a medical registrar. Anita was the first dual-qualified Radiologist and Nuclear Physician in WA.

Professors John Burnett, Steven Webb, Fiona Wood and A/Prof David Nolan received Practitioner Fellowships and Drs Keith Giles and Andrew Woo and A/Profs Jon Pfaff and Natalie Ward were awarded Postdoctoral Fellowships from the RPH Medical Research Foundation. C/Prof Richard Herrmann also received a Research grant.

Joel Chan the former Manager of Fundraising and Public Affairs at Alzheimer’s Australia WA has taken on a PR role at Armadale Hospital.

Australia’s first Chief Scientist, Perth-born Professor Ralph Slayter AC has died at the age of 83. He began his career as an agricultural scientist at CSIRO in 1951.

SJOG Subiaco Neurologist Prof Bill Carroll was recently named Western Australian of the Year in the Business and Professions award category. The award recognises his contribution to research into Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Prof Carroll was instrumental in establishing MS Research Australia (MSRA) and has worked for more than 20 years to improve management of the disease.

After leaving Silver Chain last year, Mr Nick Harvey has resurfaced as General Manager Marketing & Communications at RFDS (Western Operations).

Ms Gizelle Lau is the new RACGP examination officer who will assist examinees, particularly IMGs completing the fellowship.

The WA Department of Health’s Health Information Network has awarded Kinetic IT a $15m contract to provide an End User Computing (EUC) environment to support its existing and new applications and business initiatives.

The DoH’s Health Information Network has awarded a $90m contract to Amcom L7, ISA Technologies and Fujitsu Australia for a panel arrangement to collectively support the department’s ICT needs across the state. It is expected the new system will improve communication speeds, expand bandwidth, consolidate infrastructure and improve service consistency and reliability by 2019.
